Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

I've been thinking about this... although the Archer wasn't one of my favourites, its adaptability - different WM logos and so forth - is exciting. It could really (I can't believe I'm about to say this wink ) strengthen the Arch brand: every sub-project will be able to associate itself properly with Arch. I wonder, in fact, if that's what swung the vote for some of the devs.

So, having got over my disappointment at my own design not being chosen, I'm beginning to feel that probably the best man won. smile

Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

Well, I'm a little late to the party on this one but congratulations again, thayer.  Your submission wasn't my favorite but it was near the top of the list and I had been using the SLiM theme for a while.

As much as I don't like blue, I must admit, Thayer's logo is great.. even the tango ones! (..which I usually just don't fancy for a reason or two..)

I agree with dunc and the thoughts about branding. Isn't that what logos and such are all about? Also I have a huge respect for the goals and inspiration versus the final outcome. IMHO, this logo is just all that! You've done a terrific job squeezing all that into one small icon.
So, Thayer, I hope you're proud of yourself, not only because you won the contest, but also you've reached an overdone one more goal you had set for yourself! Thanks.

Well - I too want to congratulate Thayer for a fine job on his logo submission, and on being selected the winner.

Having said that, I have to confess that I still do not see what was wrong with the original logo - or why it is conceived that a new one is necessary.  Having talked with numerous people about this - arch users and non-users - it seems to me and others that this logo does not represent an improvement over the old logo - only a change.  To be sure, it is an excellent submission - but is it really an improvement?  or just something different.

I don't get it.  Anyway, congratulations to Thayer and all the artists - a lot of really great stuff was brought forth.

Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

I would have to agree with Theoden about the logo change. Infact, I agree to all of his post, I see the new logo as something different rather than an improvment of the old logo. Perhaps Arch re-identifiying itself with a new leader and the new logo marks the next chapter in the "book of Arch"?

A little late, but congrats on the logo. It's not bad, although I'll probably miss our old logo when it's replaced.

Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

@ Theoden, [vEX], and others who feel the same.
I undestand your thoughts though I really _don't_ think this thread should be to place for them. I haven't read the original "Contest for a new logo" thread from post to post, but I assume you've discussed the need for it (new logo) in there? I guess it's all too late now smile

Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

I believe I was lazily surfing the forums when the change was made. I clicked a link and did a double-take, because the forum header looked different than it had a couple minutes ago. tongue

Looks good, I like it. :-)

Re: Logo Contest Results (and Winner!)

I love the new style, the colors. It's so clean and simple and yet very elegant. I am currently about to switch my WM configuration to fit the new standard arch layout.

I can't wait for the new kernel package release to include the new logo!
