Arch crashed big time

I did a pacman -Syu things were fine. Then I had to shut down because of a storm going thru. when I restarted I got a white screen after arch  and arch fallback startup. So I used duke cd and tried to restart the system. It still does the same thing. So after buying a redhat linux secrets book I tried to use vim and check lilo.conf, fstab, host, and config files they are all blank or standard. I tried "mount" and the four lines start with "none". So I don't know what to start with or do. The book and documentation online assumes you are fixing or learning basics about these files. I need to know what to put in these files. Is there a place that shows a standard file filled in so I can try to write my own files? And what files to write and in what order?. I tried vi etc/lilo.conf and tried to edit the root=sda to root=sda1 saved by :wq and rebooted and checked the file it was back to the way it was. I think I really messed things up. What do I do now???

Re: Arch crashed big time

The wiki is really good place to start with conf file info. Have you read the beginners guide yet?

You might be able to salvage your install with the ftp install disk by installing over the top of your messed up system.

Re: Arch crashed big time

You can't just edit lilo.conf.  You have to run /sbin/lilo after you edit the settings for them to take effect.  If you don't run lilo after you upgrade your kernel, you won't be able to boot (probably your problem).

Follow this guide to chroot into your system to edit your lilo.conf and then run /sbin/lilo.
