X Freezing (SOLVED)

Not really sure what is causing this. I did a pacman -Syu the this morning and now if I startx my screen goes blank and my caps lock on my laptop just blinks and everything locks up completly.

I checked the xorg log and it only showed info from the last time I started X a few days ago. I tried a new xorg.conf and that wasn't it. I also checked the synaptics driver and the video driver those weren't it either. I probably didn't check over the upgrade list as good as I should have but to late for that. This is the first time anything has ever broke for me.

Any ideas

Thanks

Re: X Freezing (SOLVED)

Blinking keyboard leds usually mean it's a kernel panic.  Sorry, this is probably not terribly helpful but I have no other suggestions since I've never experienced anything of this sort on my system.  The one thing I could say is try rolling back kernel and xorg-server packages and see if that helps.

What driver do you use? Do you have an xorg.conf you might be able to post?

Re: X Freezing (SOLVED)

I have tried changing the driver between ati and radeon. I also have downgraded xorg-server. All with the same problem. I have reconfigured xorg completely with a new conf file and still the same problem. I will post my xorg.conf in a bit.

Thanks

Re: X Freezing (SOLVED)

Ok I am getting some where with the kernel panic but i don't know where. I have downgraded to 3 earlier kernels and all are doing the same thing. But if I use the fall back img I at least get something on my screen (a bunch of fuzz) before it just sits there but I can move my mouse around. Did the newest kernel upgrade change a config somewhere?

Any help is great

Thanks

Re: X Freezing (SOLVED)

Nevermind

I just noticed that the ati driver was updated recently too (I need to read a little more carefully). Switched to vesa and all is working. Then downgraded to previous ati so I am good to go.

Thanks for the help
