Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

It's an error with something in the actual Xorg-packages. But don't ask me which one. I just know, that I got a Radeon 9200, use the open-source-drivers and xorg ignores my resolutions in xorg.conf but instead gives me a widescreen-resolution per default.

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

Try running X with no xorg.conf.  Rename the file to xorg.conf.bak and restart X. The optimal resolution for the monitor should be selected automagically.

Otherwise, you need to uncomment and add some lines to your xorg.conf:

uncomment:
Load "glx"
Load "dri"

Uncomment the section "DRI", all three lines.

Add the following to the end of the file:

Section "Extensions"
    Option  "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

cheers,

cascat

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

I can also confirm, that no xorg.conf also gives a wrong resolution.

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

Use a fresh xorg.conf from X -configure.
Show xrandr output, again.
If it's still not listing at least half a dozen resolutions, the auto-detection of your display capabilities fails (blame your choice of hardware). In that case, post specs; at least the default resolution.
Things to try (not all at once, obviously):
- HorizSync/VertRefresh (Monitor section)
- Option "PreferredMode" (Monitor section, might also need a custom Modeline in your case)
- Modes "1024x768" "800x600" etc. (Screen section, SubSection Display)

I have one xorg.conf that works with a Rage128, Radeon 32 and Radeon 9250 on three different CRTs; not perfectly (a 17" CRT cannot cope with the optimal config for a 21" CRT), but the right resolution is only two clicks away with the KDE tray app.

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

i already tried the - HorizSync/VertRefresh (Monitor section)

and x started with the resolution 1280x768       60.0 ( when i play with the HorizSync like HorizSync   31.5 - 75 i get  1152 x 864)
but i can't change it with the X ho keys , there is no 3d acceleration neutral besides , when i change it to 1024x768 with kde cc , firefox width is over the screen width dunno why

one more thing , what about 3d acceleration big_smile

what do you suggest ?

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1152 x 864, maximum 1920 x 1200
VGA-0 connected 1152x864+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 300mm x 230mm

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

Resolutions:
At the bottom of xorg.conf, remove all Display SubSections except 24 bit and add a line with

Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" (whatever)

For the Monitor section, you could try adding

Option "PreferredMode" "1152x864"

That should alleviate the need of messing with HorizSync.

3D:
Comment/remove the whole Module section and reinstall libgl.

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

well , commenting all the modules wont enable 3d acceleration .

when i put the preferemod in monitor section , the screen doesnt show any thing but black , nothing xorg only ( which is a bug i heard about it ) but all the Virtual consoles , i can't switch , buti can use alt+ctrl+del to reboot .

when i read logs it reminded me to load the agpgart , which i forgot modprobe and add it to rc.conf

anyway , iam still lost , no X switching hot keys , no 3d acceleration and the firefox problem big_smile

i think this isn't a bug , here is a topic about it , http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=38881  but my keyboard doesn't flash .

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

btw when i do  cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep WW it gives me :

(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available
(WW) RADEON(0): No crtc mode list for crtc 1,continuing with desired mode
(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled

when lspci

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (Secondary) (rev 01)

thats means i got 2 drivers , so X server is confused ( i guess )

so i have to specify the right BusID ( i guess so xD ) should find it wih

Xorg -scanpci

working after  i updated xorg-server to 1.4.0.90-3

output is

(1:0:0) unknown card (0x1043/0x004c) using a ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO]
(1:0:1) unknown card (0x1043/0x004d) using a ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (Secondary)

That's from your last paste. How can you not have 3D acceleration then?

Re: configuring Xorg for Radeon 9250 .

I already said you didn't need to mess with the Module section at all; just kill it, the defaults work fine.
And you're supposed to run pacman -Syu, not updating single packages.

What? You should never need to modprobe those manually. Now don't tell me you disabled module autoloading (through udev) in rc.conf...
