When I try to start the xserver by typing startx [ i've got 'echo startxfce4' in my .xinitrc file ], it gives me these errors:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
>Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
> Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/TTF, removing from list!
startxfce4
waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.and it goes back to a command prompt.
Any ideas?
I've got NVIDIA driver installed and modified the xorg.conf file.

i dont know if this will fix your problem, but i think instead of echo in your .xinitrc i think i needs to be exec?

i think Kane is right it will just print/output the word "startxfce4" on your screen , could you try
exec startxfce4 instead of echo startxfce4 in the .xinitrc file

What a silly mistake! Thanks guys ![]()
I finally made it working, but.. While it was loading, xfce gave me this error :
Could not look up internet address for arch. This will prevent Xfce from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding arch to the file /etc/hosts on your systemIn the Arch installation process, I've set up the connection as a DHCP network and it works well.. How could I get rid of that error?
Anyway, I've tried to install firefox by pacman -S firefox
It seemed that pacman did the job well, but I can't open the 'firefox' package, either by typing firefox in alt+f2 dialog or in terminal.
Any ideas?
and many thanks for fast replies.
edit:
Thanks. How about the firefox issue?
OK, firefox works now. Thanks for help.

this is what my /etc/hosts looks like
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 kane.workgroup kaneyou might need to edit yours in a similar way

Just confirming that Kane is right, Xfce4 will give you errors about not being able to find the network information. My main problem has been when I change hosts, I have to add that host into /etc/hosts. Just modify it to look like his, and it should work (but remember to place your own information in there!)
