I just attempted to setup ThinkFinger as described at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Thinkfinger But now whenever I attempt to login at gdm whether by fingerprint or by password I get an authentication error. Meanwhile, the scan has no effect at all for xscreensaver but it does work for su.
Can anyone please help me getting it to work for gdm?

I edited that wiki page because the configuration worked for me :-)
my /etc/pam.d/gdm is pasted below and I have no problem in gdm.
You can try using similar settings.
If you can make it work using some editions please update the wiki page.
#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_thinkfinger.so
auth requisite pam_nologin.so
auth required pam_env.so
auth required pam_unix.so use_first_pass nullok_secure
account required pam_unix.so
session required pam_limits.so
session required pam_unix.so
password required pam_unix.so

BTW have you done
tf-tool --add-user <username>
for your user.

can you post your /etc/pam.d/gdm
I can try that on my mcahine ( IBM thinkpad T 60)

erm, no longer an issue, I didn't realize that 'auth sufficient pam_thinkfinger.so' has to be the first line in the file. Thanks for the help! Also, while I have you, xscreensaver is completely unresponsive to a fingerprint scan after following the wiki instructions to the detail. Is there some modification I was supposed to make that I missed?
EDIT: Never mind, followed the additional instructions over at thinkwiki and it's working now, have added the instructions to the arch wiki.
