Urxvt fonts

Hello to everyone!!
I have a little problem considering the fonts in urxvt. The problem is that the fonts have immense spaces between them..

The image showing the problem lies here

My .Xdefaults file lies here : http://pastebin.com/m3f8d32a8

Any help would be really appreciated!! smile

Re: Urxvt fonts

Isn't that due to the fact that terminals don't do kerning or tracking?
I think that's what the font looks like without kerning/tracking.

Monospace fonts work better in terminals.

Re: Urxvt fonts

Is there a term that does kerning/tracking? I.e. one that can display non-monospace fonts?

Well, using a variable-pitch font in your terminal would lead to problems , since it breaks the assumption that you can do alignment based on characters. Some terminals will still let you use them, but they pad the characters  like you see above to make everything line up. Monospace fonts are the way to go if you don't want it to look funny, since they are designed with characters that look good when spaced equally. I wish I had a nicer looking monospace font though.

Some pretty good suggestions in this thread...  I particularly like Dina font - the link is in one of the posts towards the end.

Re: Urxvt fonts

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono really needs anti-aliasing. Does aterm have that? How do I turn that on?

I should specify: I wish I had a fixed-pitch vector font suitable for use use with subpixel rendering that wasn't so darn typewriter-like. An unusual requirement, I know. As far as the usual fonts go, I like Consolas and Inconsolata, which was inspired by Consolas. But I'd like something more lively. I haven't seen anything that really breaks the mold though.
