hello. I have searched all over and have only found incomplete answers and nothing has worked. I have openbox installed by itself. I plan on using thunar as the file manager. however, thunar by itself does not come with any icons. how exactly do I install icons without having to install the entire xfce?
thanks

I am not shure, but...
Try to install something like gnome-icon-theme and then you should have icons if you have working icon theme logicaly.
Oh byte was first.

It's very easy, download the icon-theme from gnome-look and unpack it in ~/.themes
In the file ~/.gtkrc-2.0 add this line:
include "~/.gtkrc.mine"
Then create the file ~/.gtkrc.mine if it doesn't exist. Add the following line in the file:
gtk-icon-theme-name = "NameOfTHeIconTheme"
Notice that you replace the name with the name of your icon theme. You could add the row in gtkrc-2.0 directly, but its easier to have your own changes in a different file.

Hi!
I still don't get an icon theme "nuove" to thunar in openbox.
I put the unpacked icon archive to /usr/share/icons and i also tryed it with a new created folder ~/.icons as mentioned in the wiki.
Then I created the file ~/.gtkrc.mine and added gtk-icon-theme-name = "nuove"
I ask myself, what is about the file ~/.gtkrc-2.0, xd-0 talked about because I don't have it in my home folder.

you can just create it and make it a one liner: include "~/.gtkrc.mine"
if you install some gtk themes it will probably overwrite what you have but it will probably automatically keep the include gtkrc.mine line

Thanks,
installing a new gtk theme solved the problem
