tetex versus texlive

tetex is outdated and no longer maintained....or so i hear....anyone using texlive?

also, how does one locate the install paths for tetex.  i am searching for where to some extra class files, and can't find where things are put.

thanks

Re: tetex versus texlive

A simple forum search for texlive works wonders. Also: pacman -Ql tetex

Actually rdking, when you see the work that Firmicus put into the TexLive repo, you'll be truly amazed.

Re: tetex versus texlive

I've recently switched to texlive and there's nothing to complain about - works even better (includes support for phonetic symbols) than tetex for me and there haven't been any problems so far.
I can only recommend it.

Re: tetex versus texlive

I've used it for a few short papers and plan on using it for my upcoming masters thesis. It seems to work well enough for these tasks.

Re: tetex versus texlive

IIRC a

pacman -S texlive-most

will ask you to uninstall tetex and install all necessary packages.

Re: tetex versus texlive

texlive is installed in opt so it needs log out/in the first time you install it in order to update the paths.  I don't know why the installer posted all those errors though...  I would reinstall texlive-most again, just to be sure.  It should work fine now that the path is updated.

Re: tetex versus texlive

restart didn't work in my case. I had to add /opt/texlive/bin into PATH in .bashrc
I also added /opt/texlive/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH in .bashrc

export PATH="$PATH:/opt/texlive/bin"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/opt/texlive/lib"
