Dear Arch fellow users,
since a few days it seems impossible to to an pacman -Suy upgrade on my Arch i686 box with xfce4. It gives me the following result:

Is this a temporary phenomenon, or are we supposed to switch to xfce4-svn? If yes, is xfce4-svn stable enough for a reliable workhorse?
And additionally how could one upgrade to xfce4-svn since I get an error message error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
I hope someone will help me out. Just a week a ago I gathered sufficient courage to turn my bloated and slowly running Ubuntu laptop (for professional use) into revitalized Arch box

HM i had the same problem, but it was my fault.
i switched from xfce4-svn to xfce4 (without problems) but i forgot to switch the xfce4-taskmanager-svn to xfce4-taskmanager.
so the upgrade for xfce4-taskmanager-svn wanted to install xfce4-svn packages...
do a
pacman -Q | grep xfce | grep svn
and see if it shows any xfce svn packages
if so, switch them to non-svn
We can't stop here! This is bat country!!

Uh - I don't think should be happening. I think maybe something that's pulled by the upgrade accidentally depends on an -svn version, and so it's trying to pull the whole xfce4-svn on you.
If you run pacman with --debug=3 you'll get a ton of messages - see if you can find out why libxfce4util-svn is being pulled.

Thanks for your quick replies guys!

Cerebral you might be right. Also I few days ago I followed the advice of Tardo in the following thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=34566 and I installed the xfburn-svn-25797-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz in my quest for a to get a lightweight burner with pacman -U. How do I get rid of it? Just pacman -R xfburn-svn-25797-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz ?? I installed that package since neither graveman (hangs) nor hacburn (can not detect my device) are working. I like k3b but not the bunch and MBs of dependencies.
I will review the AUR and ABS wiki page on how to get rid of the xfburn-svn package....:P
Thanks again for your quick responses!;)

Yeah, you should be able to just pacman -R xfburn-svn it to remove it. In fact, try -Rsc to make sure you get its (unused) deps and any apps depending on it.

problem solved!
pacman -R xfburn-svn removed the package and I can again comfortably do a pacman -Suy without a problem.
Thanks Xsdnyd and Cerebral for your tips and quick responses:D
Good lesson: don't just install any package that is out there....
BTW: Arch i686 with xfce on my Acer laptop is running fantastic. Good chemistry: Arch and xfce!
see you around

Mini hijack:
Whats a good burner for xfce is xfburn is going to pull a bunch of testing files? I'd rather not use k3b or brasero unless I have no choice (graveman didn't seem to burn what I need) I need to be able to burn video ISOs and the like I'm backing up my home movie collection
