When I try to open an mp3 file with amarok I get the following error:
The xine-engine claims it cannot play MP3 files.
You may want to choose a different engine from the Configure Dialog, or examine the installation of the multimedia-framework that the current engine uses.
You may find useful information in the FAQ section of the Amarok HandBook.
I tried to downgrade the latest packages I have upgraded but the problem still remains. I also tried to reinstall amarok-base amarok-engine-xine and codecs but with no result either. Mplayer plays mp3 files just fine. Kaffeine also gives me an error
10:42:08 AM: xine: couldn't find demux for >/home/***********.mp3<
10:42:08 AM: xine: found input plugin : file input plugin
Any ideas?

If I remember correctly, you can fix it by deleting the catalog-cache file in your ~/.xine directory
A temporary file is just a pipe with an attitude and a will to live.
