[solved] <6>Switched to high resolution mode on CPU 0 ... freezes

This is happening while using Archlinux-i686-2007.08-2.core.iso.  Every time I boot the CD, I get this message and it locks up big time (numlock doesn't change LED).  It's on a Sempron 2800+ CPU.  Not sure what to do from here!  What should I try?

If I start the CD with the flags "arch acpi=off" it doesn't show the high res message, but instead hangs on "checking if image is initramfs... it is"

http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … meters.txt (search for "clock")

Try hpet=disable. Or clocksource=tsc (or pit, or acpi_pm) ...

Try also any combination of nohz=off and highres=off as kernel boot parameters.

Hmm.  I don't think it's the clock thing, it's always hanging at the initramfs thing.  Perhaps I'll try burning another CD.

Re: [solved] <6>Switched to high resolution mode on CPU 0 ... freezes

On a fluke, it decided to work.  It's kinda funny ... a couple of days ago, I turned it on out of hope and it booted fine.  But for one reason or another I decided to reboot and it never booted for the rest of the night.  Then yesterday, I booted it cold again, and it worked again.  So I installed it while I had the chance, and now I have a completely functional Arch Linux system.

I built this PC for them a couple years ago when making a cheap computer was the goal ... guess that's what you get for using s--t hardware! big_smile
