Pyrogate usb 2.0 drive: not detected

I have connected this external "Hi-Speed Business Drive" Pyrogate PX-21 after a very long time (> 1 year). On /var/log/messages I get

Jan  9 18:20:46 mymachine usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
Jan  9 18:20:47 mymachine usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
Jan  9 18:20:47 mymachine usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
Jan  9 18:20:48 mymachne usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6

and lsusb says

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000  
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000  
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000  
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I'm sure I used this drive those days, not sure wheter Arch or Slackware.
What do I need to mount this drive?

Ony now I checked dmesg. It is full of messages like

usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71

for addesses 3-10

Is this a usb HDD?  If so, it may need external power.

Yes, it is an external USB case for a 2.5" HD.

The power may be an issue. But the drive has a two USB-connectors in parallel on the computer side. And I know for sure that it worked with this same notebook about an year ago. Kernel 2.6, can't remember the exact version nor the distribution (Arch or Slackware).

It may be that the power required is supplied by two usb connections which then supplies twice the current of one usb connection.

No, not that the speed changes but the power needed to run the drive may exceed the 500 milliamperes of current provided by a single usb connection...therefore a second connection would create 500 milliamperes as well but only the voltage (5v) remains the same and the speed is voltage related.

Most external devices have a power connector for supplying the mains power through a wall wart to supply the 5V for the spin-up at 5400rpm.
