700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

well, i had an issue last night. went to copy something, and didn't have enough har drive space. forced me to clean up and organize myself though. but either way, wasn't my problem. my home drive, was 346gb, and last i checked, i had 90+ free, but not last night. i tried to add up all the folders i had that should take space to 204gb

i had to run my file browser (konqueror) as admin, or root, whatever. and checked the space on the wifes user account, and it was taking up all the space, but when i went in and checked her personal files, there was only 5

anyway, ended up, being a xinit something error file, that somehow bloated itself. so i got rid of it, and everything normal.

im just looking for some insight as to what could have caused that?

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

Maybe you should have check what kind of errors you had in the error file before you removed it, otherwise it will probably happend again. It's also a lot harder to help if there is no information available about which type of errors you got. A couple of lines from the error file should be enough.

Konqueror isn't probably the best tool to analys where all your space have gone, I think filelight is a better tool.

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

actually, heres what the file was called, it was in the wifes home folder. there was a couple with the same name, different numbers though. but this one sucked up my drive.

.xsession-errors-:1

it was 90+ GB, i wasn't just going to leave it there. and PJ,  konquerors file view thing was how i found it, thnx though

last time anything changed system wise, was like a week ago when i did updates, this only happened out of the blue, and so far remains that way

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

google .xsession-errors for more info.

pj is correct that it will most likely happen again.

Actually, I wouldn't leave it either. smile
It might even be a problem opening such a large file so my idea of opening the file just to copy some lines might not really work. It might work with tail, I don't know if it works since I haven't used it for really large files. The last 100 lines or so should probably be enough since I think the error is repetitive. Guess it's to late for that now, might be something to remeber to next time if it happens again that means.

I have used konquerors file view thing a couple of years ago and IMO it wasn't as good as filelight.

and the rest of it almost is the malformed swf etc etc. so wtf is that?

the other problem i've been having, is my system seems to freeze sometimes, usually after the wifes been on it. when i'm on it, i don't have problems, i figured with little access to anything, and not being able to install activex controls, since its linux, it should be pretty well dummy proofed from her.

maybe thats why, she's doing something thats building up those log files. wonder if i could disable xsession logging under her account al together, or bad idea?

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

she's lookin at teh pr0n and its breaking your box.

But seriously, there is a lot of malware going around facebook nowadays, and it could just be some malformed jpg/swf trying to break something.

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

These errors most probably come from gnash. Try rebuilding it with the --disable-debug configure option. If it fix it, submit a bug report.

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

forget gnash and install flash, arch 64? install using nswrapperplugin. Where there is a will there is a wiki.

DEBUG: virtual bool gnash::GtkGui::init(int, char***) enter

this line looks like a problem too me, I think that is what the dev is also talking about. Notice how debug is turned on, that was his advice to change it. My advice get rid of gnash period. It never worked that well for me.

Re: 700kb free hard drive space!?!?!?

oh. maybe, there is another thing.........

everytime i run pacman, it wants to replace gnash with gnash-common or something, havent done it yet. i did before, and my browser plugin didn't work. totally slipped my mind, maybe i just need to update it and get it working?
