[solved] wrong dependencies in testing/kdemod vs. kde

Since I installed the new pacman (3.1.0.1) I've got serious problems to install kdemod 4 (http://kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=406&p=1. If I try to upgrade arch to testing pacman wants to install vanilla-kde, although I've only installed kdemod on my machine:

pacman -Su
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: arts conflicts with kdemod-arts. Remove kdemod-arts? [Y/n] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: arts: conflicts with kdemod-arts

. Is there any possibility to check which package in testing has these wrong dependencies to kde?
Please excuse my bad english..

Re: [solved] wrong dependencies in testing/kdemod vs. kde

Oh, thank you for these links. But  Nagy Gabor (combo)  wrote in his reply to this "bug" that it's a feature? I am new to arch and don't understand this: It's no bug if pacman tries to install kde even if it wasn't installed before?
edit: I ihink I understand now, qtmod has wrong dependencies, thanks :-)

More or less pacman has a new feature that breaks some packages from installing because they lack the necessary information that pacman 3.1 needs.

as for this particular case I am not sure how to resolve the problem, is qtmod in AUR? I will look and see if I can't come up with a solution. I have nothing better to do today.

edit: looks like this is a problem for kdemod people. they need update the package build with the new information that pacman 3.1 requires. If u wait long enough (couple days) I am sure this will be resolved since pacman 3.1 is in core repository now.

thanx, Jacko,
I think I'll wait a couple of days smile

Or, maybe it would be better to uninstall kdemod, and install kde.

Btw, what do you think about moving to kde4?

I think I would wait for kdemod to fix their problem, it should be resolved shortly. KDE4.0 is not in 'usable end user form' or so I have read. Therefor arch dev's won't be providing it in the repositories anytime soon. I think the dev's decision to not upgrade says a lot about the state of KDE4.0.

I can not wait anymore sad
When all this will be fixed? sad
I am new Archer, and this disaster makes me disappointed.
I'm thinking about switching to classic KDE (but I do not know how smile )..
