You can find newer images, albeit unofficial, in the announcement-section of this forum.
A new release will be made when kernel 2.6.24 is out, according to tpowa.
Zl.

All that is 'new' - since you seem in dire need - is the installer. The packages are those found in the repos. Nothing new. Arch is a rolling release distro, so any ISO is just a snapshot of the repo's at a given time, with an improved installer.
Someone suggested on IRC they should rename the release ISOs to 'installer ISOs', and I agree. Too many people unfamiliar with Arch seem to think it is a real 'release', which it isn't. Not by any means.

Well there has been quite a few changes since last august ![]()
(core, pacman, logo, cron? ... who knows what else)
But there is the latest beta in forums, you should use that. (it works just fine)

more importantly - will there be a new package release of the kernel with the new arch logo?

I want the logo!!
Is there any way we can change it manually, I'm not really the waiting type...
Where's the logo located? (The one used with the framebuffer boot process)

I don't know a lot about it, but I think they're built into the kernel.

They are, you need to provide them during kernel compilation, they can't be replaced on the fly.

Well, if you really really really want the new logo during boot-up, you can build your own kernel. The PKGBUILD and necessary files are in abs. ![]()

Well the rc's have been out for quite some time
. Rumour has it Ubuntu will use 2.6.24 for their new LTS release, and that would make things take longer than usual (normally around 6-7 rc's we get a stable). Linus said before Christmas no stable, but hey, we're still waiting
.

I got my hard-disk replaced
. I thought of installing Arch 2008.02 on it but then I thought I must wait for a newer release, Linux-2.6.24rc8 is out, seems like Archlinux 2008.01 will be ready before Feb. So I postponed the Arch installation for few weeks. I am desperately waiting for newer Arch release ![]()

Why not just use the ISOs that are already there? What's keeping you from using them?

pacman -Syu on 2008.02 ISO gives me 106 MB to download, 2.5 hours of work and then 1 bug "/ is busy" which nearly eats the hard-disk :\
Since within next 10-15 days, a new core will be released so I will get new 100 MBs of updates = 2.5 hurs of more work + the bug as gift. Why not wait for a newer ISO then.

I have machine with slow, expensive (and not unlimited) connection. And I want to have the latest soft already installed. And I don't want to download "unnecessary megabytes".
I think I'm not alone. ![]()
Sorry, if my English is not very well.

Valid reason, as long as you're aware that the ISO provides the core repo only. You will still have to download anything else you want to install, like X, DE/WM, browser, media apps, office stuff, <your_pref_here>, etc.
