Hey Forum.
I've installed Arch on my IBM x60s with ipw3945 with Gnome:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)
But cannot seem to find out how the little network monitor in the status panel.
I've look all over for the little ikon there is in the Ubuntu - called Gnome-network-manager.
I have also installed that package and the other gnome network tools, but still no options for administrating the network.
I have earliere been running Ubuntu without any problems with network or anything - but this is the first time that I used Gnome - instead of KDE. As I can see it's the nm-applet where talking about here. I've manually tried to run this applet severel times but getting this error:
As user:
** (nm-applet:8234): WARNING **: <WARN> nma_dbus_init(): could not acquire its service. dbus_bus_acquire_service() says: 'Connection ":1.8" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerInfo" due to security policies in the configuration file'
And as root:
(nm-applet:8238): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
So what should i do for getting this to work??? So that I'm able of controlling the network. What are others doing in Arch with gnome??
[EDIT] I have now followed the guide here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD … 66938a204e
So now when I start the nm-applet - there's no error - but still no applet either. Just empty screen!
So how do I manage my network.
At home I got an D-link DWL-2000AP accesspoint, where I do not have encryption on - only mac-validation, but cannot get it to connect from Arch. So what should I do to get this working??
Thanks
Peque

This is how I did it: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_Profiles
It'll be the preferred way of connecting to (wireless) networks once it is out of testing, but it is still waiting to get into core - it is stable and it doesn't depend on anything else, so you can easily enable the testing repo for this package only.
