Dear all
I have been having a strange problem in the past few days (actually two, if you check my other post). After a while that arch is running kate and kwrite both refuse to open. The process starts but the window is simply not there. I can kill the process from systemguard. When I click on the icon I get the sand-containing-thing for a 10 seconds, I think (it should be the time that I set somewhere in kcontrol center) but then nothing. If I try from terminal (and this is weird) I get absolutely no output. It just hangs with no output as if the program has started normally
any idea???

Same problem here ... After a short while, kate and kwrite can be opened up again, the bug seems to occur at random if I access root files.

I had this problem with the kate-part. But it just dissapeared on an update
Is your system up to date (pacman -Syu)?
If the problem is still there after an update, you could try to delete the user settings for kate and kwrite (they live under ~/.kde/share/apps/kate (and similar for kwrite) I think).

Even after pacman -Syu the problems keeps occurring - one time kwrite/kate starts, one other time it just hangs.
Seems I have to count on kedit ...

Can you open it from a terminal and note any output when it bombs?

There is no output at all, not a single line.
I can't even reproduce it at will (neither per terminal nor Konqueror), but from what I've experienced so far it occurs most likely when opening a text file belonging to root as a normal user.
Note that I stumble upon this problem on two totally different systems, a laptop and a desktop each running an up-to-date Arch Linux.
