Flash blocking the soundcard?

Whenever I leave FF open with a youtube movie on, XMMS gives that "check if no application is blocking the soundcard" error."  Any way to get around this?

Re: Flash blocking the soundcard?

Are you using flash 9? Cause flash 7 uses OSS...
And also what does xmms use? OSS, or ALSA?

Flash 9 as far as I know.  It's the flashplugin package from the repos.  XMMS is using ALSA, I try to use ALSA for everything.

Re: Flash blocking the soundcard?

others are having the same prob, flash and xmms not playing well together - http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42459
even though alsa by default should use dmix it's up to the program whether or not to use that setting or to access the hardware directly, in which case if your sound card doesn't support hardware mixing, which many don't, it will block other audio.
if you're using flashplugin 9.0.48.0-1 (the latest version is absolute crap) it shouldn't be flash that's causing a problem as i can watch flash movies and play music via audacious and/or mplayer fine.
might be xmms, try closing xmms and using something else while playing a flash movie, like audacious or mplayer
