Re: best light and fast IM/voicechat/Videochat application

Sadly, I doubt it. It's rare to find such apps to start with. Then if among those few ones you want one with minimum dependencies I think you're gonna hit a wall.

Perhaps you have to specify the protocol you want. Amsn looks promising for those features and it doesn't depend on any DE. Not sure it's exactly light and fast. I haven't used it in the last 8 months or so, because I detest its UI.
Then we have Mercury, another MSN clone, written in Java. No particular dependencies, but, well, it's Java hmm

If you want to use voice chat with Gtalk, you can try out Tapioca, which has at least some Gtk dependencies as far as I remember.

That's all I can remember for now, since I don't use audio/video.

Re: best light and fast IM/voicechat/Videochat application

ya I followed the Lnf discussion thread, but sadly it seems no one is big on chat/voicechat/video chat..;)
Well it seems tapioca and other jingle based IMs have QT4 dependencies..
I hope someone makes an application for lnf people...
Thanks for suggestions though

I tried empathy, when I right click on call button it shows a box with "closed" message sad
the terminal o/p was:

 ** (empathy:5911): DEBUG: mission_control_get_connection_status: MC not running.

Voice and Video support is one of the Google summer of code projects for Pidgin, so hopefully we'll be seeing the dividends of that work in the not too far future.
