java, firefox, and arch64

I'm confused. I know there has not typically been very good java plugin support for 64-bit systems, but Sun's website lists 64-bit downloads too. However, I refuse to install anything on my system unless it goes through pacman in some way. Why are there not any packages for it? Is it actually 32-bit with some sort of compatibility layer or something?

If there is not a clean way to install a java plugin for arch64, is there a way to put a 32-bit plugin directly into my firefox profile? (which I would then forward with ssh from a university computer (which does not have it installed by default either, and to which I obviously do not have root priveleges))

EDIT: Sorry, I thought I was posting this in the Arch64 forum and it turned up in Newbie Corner. I don't know what happened there...
