I have a old laptop with no Ethernet jack but has a pcmcia wireless card, could anyone suggest me a way to install arch with wireless?
Is it even possible?
Thanks

Yes, you have to download the tarball from the PKGBUILD's source for your wireless firmware. Not sure if a PKGBUILD would work. Make sure you install the depends as well. Please. if anyone, continue from here.

To do this you need to install from the core installation disc (not ftp), then follow this guide to upgrade and install what you need until you get your wireless working. This assumes that you have access to the internet from another computer.
EDIT: It appears you can do a normal install, according to the people below. I remember trying to do the same thing though, and I couldn't get it to work for me. What I just described is how I ended up doing it, and how you would do it if your wireless drivers are not included in the core iso.

Most wireless drivers are now included on the install isos. Which driver does your card use?

It works just fine. As TomK stated, most drivers are included on the installation CD.
I have an old Compaq with no ethernet card, just an Atheros-based cardbus adaptor, and I easily installed Arch on it. The Atheros (madwifi) driver, and all wireless drivers are under the SUPPORT category on the install cd.
Just check to see which wireless driver you need.

I have only wireless at home and 4965 intel in my laptop and I did not experience any problem with installation from arch.core.iso

Thanks for the prompt msgs, it is an old IBM thinkpad 600 and i bought a airlink 101 card, it is still being shipped, I am not sure what drivers they use, but it is encouraging that all drivers are included.
Can I connect to a WPA PSK network?
Thanks again

Yes, wpa_supplicant is also on the iso.
General advice - as far as possible, you should find out if your chosen hardware works with Linux before buying it. A brief google suggests that madwifi will do it for you, but you'll get a clearer idea of things when you actually plug it in.
