Cannot change password(crypt_t)

I was following the Blowfish passwords wiki:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blowfish_passwords
and I ran into several problems, so I basically undid everyting, including having to boot into the rescue system to reinstall pam.

The problem is now I can't change my normal user's password:

$ passwd
Password:
New Password:
Reenter New Password:
crypt_t: Don't know 0
Error: Password NOT changed.
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error

I thought it might have something to do with the /etc/default/passwd file, but I backed it up before I started, and it hasn't changed.

Any ideas?

Re: Cannot change password(crypt_t)

Trying setting your password to nothing in /etc/shadow so you just have "::" two colons together. Then try setting a password. But that's just me speculating I don't know if that will help at all.
