...Schmorp tested with me and scion what the cause of those issues might be.
It seems he got a working version ready, which should be released in the next few hours.
Obviously the version in [testing] doesnt have those tweaks, so it might be wise to update that one too.
*edit*
for those interested in such stuff:
[16:14] schmorp| the problem is that urxvt
[16:14] schmorp| handles _all_ outstanding events
[16:14] schmorp| and then flushes the x buffer
[16:14] schmorp| and for some reason, this leaves a few events pending in the read buffer
[16:14] schmorp| but that shouldn't be possible
[16:14] schmorp| Rasi: it seems ti have appeared with libx11-1.1.3
[16:15] schmorp| the workaround
[16:15] schmorp| is, isntead of flushing, to flush _and_ check for any remaining events
[16:15] schmorp| this sdhouldn't be necessary at all
[16:15] schmorp| we don't know when and why libx11 acquires those new events
[16:15] Rasi| got in contact with the guys in xorg-dev?
[16:16] schmorp| no

He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

Thanks. Not the worst bug in the world, but still a little annoying.

Just a headsup, Version 9.01 has been released minutes ago, containing a fix for this problem. (at least that's what the change-log says)

That's weird. I upgraded via pacman this morning to 9.0-1:
[2008-01-26 11:45] upgraded rxvt-unicode (8.9-2 -> 9.0-1)and I still had the issue (rebooted just to be sure).
So, I just downloaded the 9.01 source using Nihathrael's links, built the package and installed it. Now everything is fine.
Edit:
Just to point out something that I hadn't seen mentioned by anyone else regarding the bug: if I launched rxvt-unicode and it opened directly on the desktop, it would be blank until I clicked on it (or opened another instance of rxvt-unicode).
However, if I had another application open (e.g., Firefox) and rxvt-unicode opened on top of that application's window, rxvt-unicode would properly paint its own window.
Though the behavior was odd, it was 100% repeatable.

I just stumbled upon this thread and see that I wasn't the only person with this strange issue.
9.0 fixed it for me, guess there were some minor issues left?
Funny you should mention that, cause I was thinking the same thing!

9.01 != 9.0-1
Who are you directing that to?

To you if I'm not mistaken...you upgraded to 9.0-1 via pacman,
but the fix was in 9.01 not 9.0-1.
And for the record, I was having this issue also, but was too tied up
with other stuff to even really think about it. Glad to know it's
resolved.
I feel like it's happened earlier in the past too.

If you read my post, I was responding to Vex who said 9.0[-1] fixed his issue. Knowing that 9.0[-1] != 9. 01 (and that the fix was in 9.01) , I told him it was weird that 9.0-1 fixed his problem (which is more polite than saying, "Bullsh*t!"), and I confirmed the weirdness by pointing out that the 9.0-1 upgrade I had performed earlier that morning did nothing for me (nor did I expect it to because the fix was in 9.01). Finally, I confirmed that building and installing 9.01 did the trick (as it was supposed to).
I don't really think anybody was confused about 9.0-1 != 9.01. That's why I asked who Stonecrest was talking to. No big deal. ![]()
