uninstalling kde

Hi,

About a week ago all my icons from kde disappeared and I was left with the default ones, which I now think is because I updated kde without killing X first. Also amarok refuses to create a library and my old one is lost now, the files are still there but amarok won't read them. I have been wanting to try out xfce to see what all the fuss about lightweight window mangers is. I want to remove kde as I don't want to continue to update it when I won't use it, but I will still use amarok etc.. So I have a couple of questions:
1. How should I go about removing kde but leaving dependenices like qt3, I also want to keep qt4 for a personal project.
2. Does anyone know why amarok is refusing to build a library? I tried searching the forums but amarok plays fine and most problems are about getting amarok to boot.

Thanks,

Re: uninstalling kde

I think the best would be to remove kde with pacman -Rcs kde and re-install the packages you want to use afterwards. That way only the needed dependencies will be installed.

Re: uninstalling kde

pacman -Rsn kde

you'd still have some left so

pacman -Q | grep kde

and remove the leftovers the same way. Finally

pacman -Sy amarok-base qt

and do not use -c option for --remove.

Re: uninstalling kde

thanks, I'll have a go and post back if I run into trouble. By the way, if I remove all the kde stuff will kdm get removed as well? I assume I need that to start xfce if I want it started automatically?
