Ive got an alienware m9700 with the function keys and all (its got 99 keys total, kinda wierd, anyway..) and for some reason when i startx and KDE starts, i cant type a thing in the session. If i switch over to any virtual terminal i can type though. Ive searched google and the only reoccuring issue that matches (keyboard not working in KDE) is that the accesibilty option 'slow keys' is enabled. I checked that and its not even enabled...
Any ideas?

Perhaps you have a USB keyboard and USB isn't enabled?

i searched the setting menu and didnt find anything. theres a regional section in kcontrol that has the keyboard layouts, but i tried that already. As for USB support, how would i check that? The only meantioning of USB i remember was during installation asking if i needed support to boot from usb, i said no to that. I used to think something was wrong with my xconf configuration but just before i posted i ran hwd and tried that setting (as opposed to the one i configured so my touchpad would work) and still no solution... i do have a USB mouse that i tried plugging in and using once, but that didnt work.

Probably the keyboard is not correct size. What does your xorg.conf say for the keyboard?

pertaining to the keyboard, this is what my xorg.conf says:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "USB Mouse" "AlwaysCore"
InputDevice "TouchPad" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "Keyboard" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard
Driver "kbd"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

its not keyboard lock, and i thought it had to do something with the configuration files in .kde, so i renamed it to .kde-old, went into kde and have the same problem. i used pacman to get kde for me. all the dependancies are resolved correctly.
im booting into a live ubuntu cd to see if i can jack its XORG configuration file.

Can you type in a different desktop environment? Try
pacman -S xorg-apps xterm xorg-twmThen type "startx". Xterm should be open. Try typinge in it. If you can't then there must be a problem with Xorg. Also have you installed xf86-input-keyboard? This is necessary for the keyboard to work in X.
