ATi Linux Wiki - glxgears is not a benchmark
I know this links to an ATi Linux wiki, but it still explains why glxgears isn't a benchmark. Now if you're getting bad performance with a compositing manager, or an OpenGL game then there's reason to look further into the matter, but don't judge your performance on glxgears ![]()

Install Xorg maybe ? I'm using the same videocard(except its the 7800GS) and get decent performance from the nvidia driver. fps at around 780 fullscreen, but thats pushing a 28" LCD at 1920x1200.
