xfce woes

Love Xfce, Hate Thunar.

Thunar using fam, is terrible.  Check their bug list, wrt displaying hidden files, and multiple windows.

Anyone using gamin...is it more stable?  Right now am forced to use Rox, but miss the automount, and features of thunar....any suggestions?

Re: xfce woes

I haven't used Thunar too much, but I've been using gamin for a few months now.  I too had problems with fam - it would all of a sudden start eating up a whole core of processor usage.   Gamin works great with dolphin and seemed fine with Thunar the times I've used it.

Re: xfce woes

Gamin is definitely better than fam in terms of runaway processes (you can see what's happening your logs). The Thunar devs are aware of this, but they are not going to switch from fam/gamin because of it's cross-platform nature. Unfortunately, Thunar is usually one of the better choices for a light weight file manager simply because it can be themed into most systems. Almost every other choice simply doesn't look good.

Re: xfce woes

Simply install gamin. pacman will prompt you to replace fam. Then remove fam from your daemons array in rc.conf. Do not replace it. Gamin will start automatically when needed.
