For some strange reason Konsole seems to be starting a Root shell and asking the password as the default shell. And no, I'm not logged in as root. Any tips on how to change this odd behaviour? Every time I start a new Konsole session or click on the "quick launch" button on the lower left corner of konsole it starts a Root Shell instead of the normal Shell as it is supposed to. Any help you can give would be appreciated (and I'm still using KDE 3.5.8 and I'm a fairly new user to archlinux so I havent used anything outside core, community or extra repos.)

Does the same thing happen if you start xterm? If so maybe it has something to do with your .bashrc

Nope. xterm seems to start up normally in user mode and it wont even run when I try to run it from a root shell in konsole. I havent done any fiddling with .bashrc in my users home (only added some colors to PS1 in root .bashrc).

@Sekra Doing this helps me in the past (Sorry, i use the german language, but i hope you understand what i mean):
- Start konsole
- open a new tab with the standard shell
- close the root shell tab
- Save it unter settings as standard

finally managed to solve the problem. I had to edit the /home/user/.kde/share/config/konsolerc. There was a line saying default session = su.desktop and I changed it to console.desktop to get Konsole back to "Normal".. Thanks for your help anyway
Edit: Actually I hade to change it again to shell.desktop or Konsole would show the session without any description in the tabs. Doesnt change the end result anyhow.
