Alsa @ intel8x0

Hi
I have a problem with sound. I have on board sound card (intel8x0) con my 1.6 P4 desktop. I've managed to install alsa but I still have no sound. I did everything (at least I hope so) according to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA.
Sound does work with ubuntu live cd so its not a hardware problem.

rc.conf

MODULES=(e100 eepro100 mii ac97_bus snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss snd-page-alloc snd-pcm
snd-timer snd
snd-ac97-codec soundcore)

lsmod | grep '^snd'

snd_seq_oss 29568 0
snd_seq_midi_event 6656 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 47056 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device 7052 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_pcm_oss 37152 0
snd_intel8x0 28700 3
snd_ac97_codec 95396 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_pcm 69124 4 snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 19332 3 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 8200 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
snd_mixer_oss 14592 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd 45476 13 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss

any ideas ?

Re: Alsa @ intel8x0

Hi,

This might be a stupid question, but have you set the volume and unmuted all important channels with alsamixer? (press 'm' to unmute a channel, if it shows two blue MM it is muted, with two white 00 with a green background it is unmuted)

Re: Alsa @ intel8x0

I have the same sound card and exactly the same modules. My sound works. Maybe wuischke is right...

Re: Alsa @ intel8x0

I gave the same sound card, and u8nmuting the channels is the answer that I believe you ar looking for.  Follow the wiki, or in terminal type alsamixer....set the volumes of master and pcm, then exit and store the results.

That was a stupid question but unmuting master in alsamixer did the job smile. Thanks for help.

Re: Alsa @ intel8x0

I've got the same sound card, and I have no audio as well.  However, I've tried everything, PLUS making sure that the sound card was unmuted and that the volume was set to the proper levels.
