[solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

Howdy. I'm having some trouble with Compiz Fusion on xfce4. While it seems to load properly, Emerald doesn't kick in and I'm left without window decorations and thus a fairly unusable interface. When I run 'emerald --replace', it just hangs. I'd post my config, but I don't know where the files directly related to Compiz would be located.

Which brings me to my second question: What do I need to edit in order to stop xfce4 from loading Compiz Fusion automatically (and change it back when I get things working again)?

Thanks!

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

Aye, I've been searching, and wouldn't have posted here otherwise. However, the posts I'm finding seem to be repeating the same solutions that aren't working for me, and many go unanswered. I've found nothing about emerald hanging.:/

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

What video card and x.org version are you using?  You should be able to stop compiz from running automatically by deleting the fusion icon .desktop file from ~/.config/autostart.

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using a GeForce MX4000, and according to pacman -Q, xorg is version 1.4.0.90-5, freshly updated.

On further investigation, it seems compiz-fusion isn't actually loading at all, and there's no entry in the autostart for it. xfce4 is just starting up without a window manager, and I still haven't worked out how to reset this to at least restore standard functionality. Running fusion-icon in an xterm has revealed an error which I'm now looking into, "No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap support".

Edit
Alrighty, I've got xfce back in order. At least this machine is usable now.

xfwm4 --replace

That's what I was afraid of - I get the exact same error on a X1300.  I've heard it's simply no dice with the combo of fglrx, the current version of xorg, and fusion-icon, though I'd be happy to hear if anyone else had any luck.  Not sure about NVIDIA though...

Alas. Hopefully that gets fixed soon. At least it's not an absolute necessity...

I'm using nvidia-71xx from the Arch repository. How "official" that makes it, I'm not sure.

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

nvidia-* is official package from nvidia. Ok, you have driver="nvidia" in you Xorg.conf.. I don't know. I have the same card, and for me works perfect.

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

As for the "No GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap support" error..

The nvidia-71xx drivers don't support this feature acording to the Composite Wiki.

@DaNiMoTh are you also using the 71xx drivers?   How is this possible, is the wiki wrong?

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

[danimoth@jane ~]$pacman -Q | grep nvidia
nvidia-96xx 96.43.01-6
nvidia-96xx-utils 96.43.01-1

sorry, I have confused 7 with 9 big_smile

Edit: the card is 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4200] (rev a3). Is the same?

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

Last update of compiz kills my border which were working flawlessly before sad

Ouch sad

Got this error log while starting fusion-icon :

* Detected Session: gnome
 * Searching for installed applications...
libccs: dlopen: /usr/lib/compizconfig/backends/libgconf.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
 * NVIDIA on Xorg detected, exporting: __GL_YIELD=NOTHING
 * Using the GTK Interface
 * Decorator "" is invalid.
 * Setting decorator to GTK Window Decorator ("gtk-window-decorator --replace")
 * Starting Compiz
 ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
compiz (core) - Error: dlsym: /usr/lib/compiz/libccp.so: undefined symbol: getCompPluginInfo20070830
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'ccp'

Stinks like we are going to wait for compiz-fusion 0.7.0 before getting something usable again sad

Same here after upgrade to compiz 0.7.0-1.  I noticed the folloing WARNING message while it was installing the upgrade.  I wonder if it has anything to do with what's going on?

I have the EXACT same symptoms as jolinfire and mrunion. I'm using an nvidia card. Maybe we should open a bug on flyspray?

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

FWIW:  I just rolled back compiz=core and compiz-decorator-gtk and STILL got the warning about the "schemalist", but compiz works fine again.

I have a GeForce 8600 GT in my laptop and all is working well with compiz-core-0.6.2-4 and compiz-decorator-gtk-0.6.2-5.  The 0.7.0 -1 upgrade kills the decorations.  I'm using Emerald as the decorator.

compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.6.0-2
compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.6.0-3
compiz-manager-0.6.0-2
compizconfig-backend-gconf-0.6.0-2

Re: [solved] Compiz Fusion Undecorated

Oh no, I've started a craze of Compiz complaints! (Not the same problem, but still.)

Zer0 wrote:

Strange, I'm sure I'm running 71xx on the older 1GHz machine I've installed, with a Geforce2. It runs Compiz Fusion beautifully. Perhaps I've used Xgl there, as suggested by the wiki, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do that on here. Guess it's time to fire that beast up again. I took it down because I suspect the HDD is on the way out.

Edit: Well how about that. Seems 96xx was installed on the previous one. Thought it had dropped support for GeForce2 and 4, but perhaps I misread when setting this one up. Had to add my user to the plugdev group, as it was giving me a dbus error when starting fusion-icon. Actually, that didn't help at all... still gotta run fusion-icon as root. Hmm...

Now it appears to be working beautifully. Sweeeeet! One thing, though: I'm noticing some lag when dragging around this Firefox window. Is there anything I can do to improve performance there? Failing that, is it possible to disable the effect per-window?

Thanks, for helping out, y'all!
