How do I boot straight into the KDEmod desktop, not the login window but the desktop itself (if using kdemod is relevant)?
I switched to windows from linux and now after 6 months going back to linux so I've kind of forgotten some things. ![]()

edit /etc/inittab and uncomment the following lines:
id:5:initdefault:
x:5:respawn:/opt/kde/bin/kdm -nodaemon
there is more info on the wiki page http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDM

I assume you mean bypassing KDM's login screen and going directly into KDE desktop.
You can use the..
x:5:once:/bin/su PREFERED_USER -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c startx >/dev/null 2>&1"
method mentioned in the "Start X at Boot" wiki like you've done but I just thought I would let you know that
KDE lets you change this inside control center.
Control Center --> System Administration --> Login Manager --> Convenience
