When I try to initialize my DE (Xfce4), I get an error (EE) message saying that the modules are wrong or something and that type1 module does not exist. What exactly does it mean by module? Recently I changed my monitor and video card without changing the conf file, could this be the reason?
If it is, can I just comment out the monitor and GPU info? (I removed my GPU for RMA and am using an old monitor I don't know the specs on).
Thanks

Please post the output of:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EEOffline
Thanks. That line gives me
(EE) Fail to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No devices detected. What does this mean?

New monitor -- probably not an issue New video card -- most likely the source of your problem. You probably need to install the appropriate driver for your new video card from the repo. You might also have to reconfigure your xorg.conf.

Well right now I am not using a video card on account of the RMA, so what can I put in xorg.conf? Just comment out the make and model part?

You must be using *some* video card/chip, like whatever comes integrated with your motherboard, right?

You can try installing the vesa driver and see if you can at least get into X.

Yes, well onboard video I guess. I need the name of that module?
EDIT: What is the vesa driver?

xf86-video-vesa is a very basic video driver. If you have the vesa driver installed, and the driver you're trying to run fails, X11 will try to fall back on the vesa driver.

Thanks, I'll install that and comment out the xorg.conf stuff about my absent GPU and let you know how it turns out.

Ok I installed vesa but it didn't work. Then I commented out the modules "type1" bit in xorg.conf. That got rid of the "fail to load module "type1" error but I still get
No devices detectedAdvice?
EDIT: What is the relationship between xorg and xfce?

did you change the driver in xorg.conf to "vesa"?
Dammit, haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch. ![]()

Hi, you might want to consider following this wiki page, if you haven't already:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg
As I understand it, Xorg basically allows your computer to draw windows, images, etc. It basically allows your computer to run a GUI that isn't text-based.
XFCE is a desktop environment. It is just a GUI that uses xorg. You won't have to specify anything about XFCE in your xorg.conf.
