Remote X + ALSA

A friend of mine has a sound server for his home running, and wants to control it VIA some silent PC front ends.  So he set the silent PC up to login via Remote X and all works well as far as this goes.  The problem is that if he logs in locally onto the server, the sound works great.  If he logs in from remote though the sound does not work..

Does anyone know how to make it play everything done on Remote X as if its done via local??

How about mpd?

EDIT: or also X forwarding (maybe?), or streaming the music from another computer with icecast
ps: I like mpd better for this functionality.

You can forward audio with PulseAudio for example:
