Re: sonata and mpd?

You only need to open the ports if you are going to use mpd over the network.
First you configure mpd, copy /etc/mpc.conf.example to /etc/mpd.conf and decide which use you will run it as, and sett the path database and music collection etc. Then you add mpd to DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf so it starts up on startup. You should be aware of that that the music should be where the user you run mpd with has access. Then you create an database over your mpd files, with "mpd --create-db" either you run it as root or the user you set mpd run with, then you just start mpd with "mpd".

Re: sonata and mpd?

well you can connect to mpd via sonata...
it is like a remote control... you could run mpd on your pc and sonata also...

if your friend connects to mpd, he can control the music playing on your pc...
he can't listen to it through his speakers, unless you set up shoutcast output or something...
