Re: cant start jack server

Did you ever find out? Because I've been using Jack under Arch for nearly a year now with no problems, and it's just started giving me this "/dev/shm/jack-0 already exists, but is not a directory!", too. I have no idea what's gone wrong.

Edit: Ah. Never post in a panic after a long tiring day. smile I've recently taken to starting X from the commandline, rather than using GDM. It seems that's what's causing the problem for me. Clearly GDM does something that a commandline login doesn't. I knew the problem seemed familiar; I had the same trouble when I tried SLiM.

Now all I have to do is figure out what it is that GDM does, that SLiM and a commandline login don't. Any ideas, anyone?

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 64#p418064:

Add

session required pam_limits.so

to /etc/pam.d/su.

I'd forgotten about this thread, or I'd have posted the link sooner.

Re: cant start jack server

Exactly! I had this problem and completely solved it with this line in /etc/pam.d/su smile But this error message came here, when I tried to start jack as root. You don't have to do that anymore!!!
