Re-partition Drives

When I installed Arch I partitioned my drives my wrong and only noticed once I got it looking how I wanted it.

My / is 9GB (4.12GB free) and my /home is 68GB (62GB Free) - you can see I got them the wrong way around.

Is there an easy way to "remove" space on /home and "add" it to my / partition without messing anything up?

Cheers.

Re: Re-partition Drives

my root is only ~ 10 GB and my home 40 something. Generally is the case to have your /home partition much larger. If you are determined on changing them, you could use a gparted live cd I imagine.

My opinion?  You are better off with a large /home.  What happens when you start saving large video, lots of audio etc?  You will start looking for space for your /home.

Re: Re-partition Drives

my / is currently using 7.9G - with gnome+kdemod+a stack of other stuff

I wouldn't worry about it (just make sure your /var/cache/pacman/pkg doesn't grow too large!)

Re: Re-partition Drives

I have a few partitions, but my /home is the largest on both machines.  On my laptop I use / (10GB) /opt (5GB) /var (5GB) /home (100GB) swap (4GB) and 40-odd gig for windows.  Desktop is the same, but different partition sizes and it has multiple drives, so the layout is different.

You shouldn't need more than 10gig for your root drive, even if you install multiple office suites and have full kde and gnome DEs installed.

Re: Re-partition Drives

True, I should of made my self a bit clearer; I just want to add around ~20GB to my / partition. I feel a bit uncomfortable knowing I only have 4GB free on my root, I don't need much for movies, etc as I have another SATA 500GB drive. I'll try out gparted, lets hope I don't mess up my partitions :d
