xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

Does anyone are having problems with the update to version 2.2.1? (system freezing)

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

I now get a blank screen coming out of suspend. I rolled back to the previous version.

edit: Can anyone find a changelog for xf86-video-intel? It would be really, really nice if I could read these kinds of things for system-critical packages.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

aport: I have regained the ring error and system freeze on resume.  I tried downgrading to the version that used to work but that doesn't seem to work anymore either.  I think I have changed something and forgot what it was.  Would you mind telling me what version of xorg-server, xf86-video-intel driver, and kernel version you are using?  I really don't wanna keep using OS X anymore, its super slow.  There is a log of the commits on the git page http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/d … e1b68db98a, but I don't know if thats what you are looking for.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

Hmm, aport, in version 2.2.0 my system freezes too.
I've compiled 2.1.1 and it is ok.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

I have the impression that the people developing this driver owns a i915 chipset, because everything always works fine woth i915 and breaks fully with the newer chipsets smile

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

I think the freezes are when using 'exa' acceleration (default in 2.2.x) ... but I setup XAA in xorg.conf so maybe that's why I've not seen any problems.
I have a intel 950 chipset

GMA 945 + xf86-video-intel-2.2.1-1+xserver-1.4.0.90-7 + EXA = everything runs smoothly and without glitches.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

hmm, seems I have it the other way round (c400 laptop - i830 + xserver 1.4.0.90-6 + video-intel-2.2.1):

video-i810 gives frequent hard freezes (this started ~ 1 month ago, unfortunately I can not remember a certain trigger point).

video-intel with default exa settings = no freezes, but artifacts.
video-intel with xaa or exa + MigrationHeuristic: greedy = works.

also with video-intel I don't get TrueColor, even if xdpyinfo states "ColorDepth 24". no nasty color bars when switching to video-i810.

(anyway, lots of strange stuff happens since I made a fresh ftp-install last week and screwed some permission-settings. so I will check back if there's no truecolor after reinstalling...)

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

alexmgarcia, do you have acpid running?

i saw some warnings in Xorg.0.log of not having acpid running, then i installed it and turned it on. so far with 2.2.1 it didn't freeze.

No complaints here, suspend/resume works just fine.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

I can confirm freezing with both this version and the one before with the same errors that matahari posted on the 855GM card. I'm going to try to revert to the i810 driver and see if this stops.

--EDIT--

Power management was also not working with the intel driver on my box. I reverted the driver and it works again, as well as there are no crashes.

You mean 945 chipset and GMA 950 graphics core? If so, we have the same hardware but unfortunately the intel driver itself is much worse than i810 on my system with crashes during the most critical of times. Could you kindly paste the relevant xorg.conf extract?

Use the xf86-video-i810 for your card. It solved the crash and flicker problem that I had.

Re: xf86-video-intel-2.2.1

Thanks. Strange, firstly I can't have exa acceleration set. But since it's default, the other options work (I was very happy for a while that xv in mplayer finally worked flawlessly, until I realised things were going at 15 FPS). I just wonder why others don't have xorg failing if the exa option is there.

Maybe my other components are contributing to the crashes, but whatever it is i810 seems to be doing a rock-stable job.
