There are already firefox 3 PKGBUILDs in AUR.
Here's one: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15346

To learn how to make your own packages read the wiki:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Makepkg
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ABS
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PKGBUILD
For FF3, libgnome is an optional dependancy (I think). FF3 attempts to look native on all platform and Gnome was chosen for linux. FF2 already used GTK.
