Problems with Search in the Wiki

There must be something wrong with search function in the Wiki. Several times I've searched not to find anything, then I search the forum, and usually a result pops up, and often in the forum post there is a link to related article in the Wiki.

Like just now I searched the Wiki for "Xen" and it found nothing, however in the forum there is a link to this article http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xen_Install

Re: Problems with Search in the Wiki

If I had to guess, I'd say it had something to do with "Xen" being only 3 characters long.  If you search for "xen install" or even "xen python" you'll find the correct pages pop up in the results.

Re: Problems with Search in the Wiki

I'd agree with the 3 character's explanation. Searching 'usb' doesn't turn up any results either tongue

Re: Problems with Search in the Wiki

I'm pretty sure I've run is to this problem before, but I can't remember what I was searching for then.

But regarding the 3 caracters, "ssh" and "ftp" does give result though

You could always try google if you're looking for something short, just add the following to the end of your search term:

site:wiki.archlinux.org

+1.  this is how i search anything.  the only site i've found that this technique doesnt work well on is cisco.com. not sure why though.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Re: Problems with Search in the Wiki

i posted a bug report about this but they closed it. I would be happy if they just posted the site:wiki.archlinux.org tip under the search button or made a google search because right now it's too confusing; it's even two buttons you can choose from when you do a search! (and no i don't care if this is standard MediaWiki behaviour...)
