Hi All,
Arch is my first linux experience away from windows (the install and everything was really nice, hardly as daunting as some reviewers made it out to be...) and I was curious, knowing that the directory structure is a much more thought-out thing in the *nix world, if there is an intelligent way to sort personal media. That is, in windows there are the generic "My pictures," "My Music," "My Videos," etc. directories. Do most people just create /home/user/video,mp3,pics, etc? Or would it be apt to create a user named 'mp3' and put all music in /home/mp3?
I imagine most newb questions have been asked many a time over, I'd be happy to be pointed to long reference material or threads from other posts. No need to reiterate.
Thanks,
-w

you're free to do what you want with it... but you can also have a look here (for example) for some inspiration: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=37620

You can do what you like in your home directory ... there's really no convention for organizing your data. I usually put my stuff in directories called 00-art, 00-music, 00-writing, 00-code, etc. so they sort together alphabetically ... makes them easier to find. But do whatever makes most sense to you.
I wouldn't create new users for data, though -- that seems needlessly complicated. Do you really want to log into another user just to listen to music? If you want a /home/mp3 you can have one, and it can belong to your user. Though a /home/user/mp3 is just as good.
