It looks very nice, but its function escapes me, since I've never used Gentoo. Is that mainly to browse the repositories by category rather than by package name?
Have you Syued today?

If you want to install package xxx just type pacman -S xxx, but if you don't know package name but you want some stuff for laptops just browse app-laptop catagory.
example: package acerhk - if you search for 'laptop' you won't find it.

wow, that's really helpful!

I think it's very usefull, it's a pitty such catagories aren't supported by pacman. There is a feature request though and I'd say it wouldn't be too difficult to implement since Arch knows a catagory system and allready uses it for the installer and website...
Recently I tried making a dialog app to use freshmeats info for Arch packages. So you would be able to browse through the freshmeat catagories, find packages <with all the info like ratings, more detailed descriptions and stuff>... and then be able to install via makepkg or pacman...
Sounds cool or what?

How is it sorted? I can't see any pattern in the order packages are listed when browsing by category.

In my opinion it's not good that the sctipt searches in gentoo-portage.com, as you said due to names incompatibility between Arch Linux and Gentoo. You could just use http://archlinux.org/packages/ and just rename the categorty names to gentoo category names.
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

skymt: now it's ok, sorry for that.
Maki: Portage uses 151 categories http://archlinux.org/packages/ only 24.

Ok, so it's what I was thinking about. I didn't know about this "flaw" in the Arch repos. Thanks for your work

This is very interesting. Perhaps the Arch pkg should be more fine-grained?

Arch will be moving to a tag-based system rather than categories. It's just a question of when. Until then, this looks nice!

Hi!
I've switched Pacnet to new hosting and port it from PHP to Django. Now you can add some comments for each package. I improve change package category functionality and search. Update script now can search for screenshots and changelogs. I still need some help with categorization. The next step will be creating API for GUI package manager.

Wow this is fantastic! Thanks trojkat!
Only one suggestion -
Can the menu be statically placed on the left and the content on the right so that we don't have to go back to choose another catagory again?
