I just did a full system update after not updating anything for about 4 months. Now, many libraries are missing, and only a few programs will start properly. Libstdc++.so.6 and libgcc_s.so.1 are the most commonly complained about, but I have also found that libssp.so.0 has run off somewhere. X won't start, and I am posting this from lynx. Any ideas or packages I could install that would put all that I am missing back in place?

Just got X to work by copying over some libs from a google-earth installation in my home folder (probably not the best idea), but my mouse is not functioning, and nothing involving qt is working. Agh! Good thing I am getting a new computer in 8 days.

pacman -Sf gcc-libs

Maybe try reinstalling 'xorg' group and 'qt' too, when needed by force like 'gcc-libs', with the pacman -Sf switch.

Have you check if pacman is using the new pacman.conf that was installed as pacman.conf.pacnew when you update, just to be sure that the repositories are used properly.

Today I made an upgrade on my laptop. 1,5 year old Archlinux 7.2 system. I was wondering what surprises I get after such huge (about 700Mb) upgrade. I started with pacman - of course. I had problems with fetching packages from repositories (550 no such file...) so i downloaded manually latest packages (needed to install latest pacman) and
# pacman -U package
# pacman -Uf package ---- if needed
(forcing if needed everywhere =but not always!!!)
--------
[03/05/08 12:35] upgraded kernel-headers (2.6.18.1-1 -> 2.6.23.1-2)
[03/05/08 12:35] installed tzdata (2007k-1)
[03/05/08 11:36] warning: extracting /etc/locale.gen as /etc/locale.gen.pacnew
[03/05/08 11:36] upgraded glibc (2.4-4 -> 2.7-7)
[03/05/08 11:36] installed gcc-libs (4.2.3-3)
[03/05/08 11:36] upgraded libdownload (1.3-1 -> 1.3-1)
[03/05/08 11:37] upgraded libarchive (2.4.12-1 -> 2.4.12-1)
[03/05/08 11:37] warning: extracting /etc/pacman.conf as /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew
[03/05/08 11:37] warning: extracting /etc/makepkg.conf as /etc/makepkg.conf.pacnew
[03/05/08 11:37] upgraded pacman (2.9.8-4 -> 3.1.2-1)
----------
I configured /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and
# mv pacman.conf.pacnew pacman.conf
and started to
# pacman -Syu
I received 2 conflict errors from 418 !!! ![]()
- termcap
- on_ac_power
So i just forced update. And guess what??! It went flawlessly! Almost. There were problems several mentioned by hank_scorpio. Essepcially with QT and others libraries and symlinks - this helped:
----------------
[2008-03-05 13:10] upgraded gcc-libs (4.2.3-3 -> 4.2.3-3)
[2008-03-05 13:11] mlocate command is technically locate, but slocate is symlinked and still works.
[2008-03-05 13:11] You should run updatedb as root.
[2008-03-05 13:11] installed mlocate (0.18-2)
[2008-03-05 13:25] upgraded qt3 (3.3.8-6.1 -> 3.3.8-6.1)
----------------
then i edited /etc/ld.so.conf to look like this:
------------
/usr/X11R6/lib
/opt/kde/lib
/opt/qt/lib
/usr/lib/libfakeroot
------------
then
# ldconfig
# updatedb
synchronized .pacnew versions of config files. (diff helped me
)
and everything is working just fine!!!! If You are interested what packages were exactly upgraded/installed i'lll list the pacman.log
HAVE FUN
anf thanks for all the fish ArchLinux Developers!!!!
It was my second such huge upgrade ![]()
