I have installed gamin instead of fam.but I have not found any startup scripts/related in /etc/rc.d directory.
here is the o/p I got for:
root@myhost:~# ps ax |grep gam*
6757 ? S 0:00 /usr/libexec/gam_server
7137 pts/1 R+ 0:00 grep gam*
So,Can I rest?everything is fine
I am not much aware of gamin's use although I know that it does is monitor file alteration.
also is there anything better about gamin than fam?

Yes, just having gamin installed is enough. It will do it's thing automatically.
There's a brief discussion on famd vs gamin here. See section 5:

thank you.sigh!

gam_server works as a deamon on a per user base for gamin. FAM uses a system wide daemon. Both services provide more or less the same functionality, though gamin does not have any functionality for monitoring networked file systems.
That said, the functionality of both gamin and FAM can be done directly by most of the current modern filemanagers, using kernel based inotify (this is at least true for konqueror/dolphin,nautilus,pcman). Only major filemanager I can think of which can't directly use inotify directly is thunar. So for file monitoring to work in thunar you do need either FAM/gamin.

I m using kdemod. So,is there any need of gamin installed?I read that gamin utilizes kernel's inotify system.

no there is no need to use gamin if you use kdemod. Konqueror is able to use kernel based inotify by itself for file monitoring.
