Thunar custom icons

Is it possible for thunar to have custom icons? I would like to use a different icons for downloads and whatnot. I'm using thunar-svn if it matters.

Re: Thunar custom icons

Your thinking of an individual icon for say folder "Downloads" instead of the normal folder icon?

Correct. So far everything is pointing towards no.

Re: Thunar custom icons

You can you just got to edit your .gtkrc-2.0

Here is mine.

include "/home/greatmetal/.themes/Blackwhite/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font"
{
  font_name="nu 12"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"

include "/home/greatmetal/.gtkrc.mine"

gtk-icon-theme-name = "minimal-perception-glossy"

the variable gtk-icon-theme-name controls the icon theme obviously.

Re: Thunar custom icons

That's now what I'm trying to do though. I just want to change a certain folder. Not the folder icon for all of them, just the one (so that downloads would a folder with a globe). It's not emblems however as those can be ugly at times.

Re: Thunar custom icons

Well while I'm at it, is it possible to hide the menubar? I really have no use for it in thunar.

Re: Thunar custom icons

Bump.

I want to be able to use custom icons for my folders, and I also want to be able to use cd-covers as 'thumbnails' for folders. Is that possible?

That would be an awesome idea, especially if it could all be automated...

Re: Thunar custom icons

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but did anyone ever manage to do this with thunar (rather than switching to nautilus?)

Re: Thunar custom icons

I know this thread is old, but I found a solution and this is the first result when googling "thunar custom icons".
You need the package xdg-user-dirs. Now run xdg-user-dirs-update and configure the .config/user-dirs.dirs file to suit your needs. I'm not quite sure if it's necessary but I added "xdg-user-dirs-update &" to my autostart.sh. After a restart of Thunar (logout to make sure) there should be different icons for Videos, Music, Templates and so on in your home directory. This only works if you use an icon theme which contains icons for these folders (I use gnome-colors) or if you add a correctly named custom icon to an existing theme.
Hope I could help
