Error when using FESTIVAL on Arch64

Has anyone used Text-to-speech tool
"FESTIVAL" on Arch64.

I installed the following packages

[XXXX@XXXX ~]$ pacman -Qs festival
local/festival 1.96beta-1
Festival is a general multi-lingual speech synthesis system developed at CSTR (Centre for Speech Technology Research).
local/festival-awb-arctic 1.0-1
Scottish English male speaker (AWB), using excited residual LPC multisyn database.
local/festival-don 1.95-1
British English RP male speaker using using spike excited LPC diphone database
local/festival-kallpc16k 1.95-2
    British English RP male speaker
local/festival-rablpc16k 1.95-1
    British English RP male speaker

And here is the problem I got

[XXXX@XXXX ~]$ echo "I am running linux" |festival --tts
-=-=-=-=-=- EST Error -=-=-=-=-=-
{FND} Feature pbreak_index not defined

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Any clue?

I'm having the same problem. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Re: Error when using FESTIVAL on Arch64

flite package works on x64. For basic use, it's almost same.
hint: flite -t "Hello"

Re: Error when using FESTIVAL on Arch64

Thanks zakili.

I ended up installing flite when I was trying to get this working (around the time that I posted above). I haven't looked at it since then, but I remember that I wanted to get FESTIVAL working because it had more features (voices maybe? I don't remember what they were now).

Re: Error when using FESTIVAL on Arch64

flite  gives the following error

# flite -t "Hello"
oss_audio: failed to open audio device /dev/dsp

Re: Error when using FESTIVAL on Arch64

I suspect that nobody actually uses this package.

Flite is a separate issue.

In your case, if you're using OSS, make sure that /dev/dsp links to your audio device. The Arch wiki provides a link to http://www.opensound.com/wiki/index.php … und_output, which worked for me when I was using OSS.
