Help Linux-shops support Arch

Searching around the net for cool merchandise I found a few that had Arch-stuff, but with the old logo.

In my oppinion we can't wait for them to find out for them selves that we have changed the logo of our distro.
They may or may not contribute to Arch Linux, but they do give Arch Linux lip-support and making potential users aware that we exist.
The thing to do is to make the shops aware that the logo has changed.

So this is a call for action: If you find a shop online or elsewhere that still has the old logo on their stuff, make them aware of the change (an give them a link to the download page), so that they can change the logo the next time they order from their suppliers.

I already done this myself for the Danish Linux-shop (linuxpusher.dk) that amongst other stuff sells notobook-stickers...
The owner responded today to my email saying he would see when he could get new notebook-stickers (with the new logo).

You might be suprised with the respond you get from the shops. And if they don't respond you have at least done what you could to help them and above all else to help Arch Linux.
It's not much, but in my book this still counts.

I know about the official Schwag. But thank you anyway.

My point is that there are at least a 3 other unofficial stores that sell stuff with the old logo. Merchandise wary, but the logo should not. I love that stuff on zazzle, but there are other stores too, although they don't give back to Arch (as far as I know).

Or do we want people to buy a new shirt or something only to let them find out that the logo is wrong... what are they doing PR for then? The old Arch? (what would that be, anyway?)

We should of course recommend everyone who loves Arch to buy their fan-articles at the official schwag - because, well its the official one that actually benefits Arch.

It's late, I'm mumbling... need sleep. I do hope people understand what I'm saying anyway though.

Re: Help Linux-shops support Arch

I think you're contradictory. Why should we support linux shops that don't give us back a small amount of what they get for their products?

So in your view its better to let them keep on selling the old logo....

I wonder who it will hurt the most? The shop or Arch Linux?

Anyway I don't see what your problem is, its one small email to send. This small email could be the email to clear up logo-confusion to people who has not heard of Arch Linux before... They do exist, you know. And it might just be that these "evil" shops are the first time they see the name "Arch Linux".

Re: Help Linux-shops support Arch

surely if the shops are selling items it is down to them to make sure the products are up-to date? it's them making the profit not the Arch Dev Team?

Re: Help Linux-shops support Arch

I'm sure most of the shops don't make much profit and its not like they're ripping us off or anything, they're spreading the word about Linux and Arch. Good for them. I agree with CBJ that they should be notified of outdated logos, just as shops that shell cds should be notified of outdated isos.

Having said that, the new logo will require a bit more work from these only shops --  the old one wasn't trademarked. The new logo cannot be used for commercial purposes without "express permission". The shops will have to obtain this from the devs and it will be up to them to choose whom to grant it to.

Well I don't restrain you from sending this email. If its such a small effort, we don't you do it yourself?

Agreed.

To explain my previous posts: I don't like the attitude of some of these shops. I once made a Arch Sticker for a german linux shop and bought some of these myself. I did most of the work except for creating the Arch Logo: Designing the sticker & spreading the word about it in the arch forum and IRC... I didn't even get some kind of discount for doing all that. It's not that I would've done this to earn money with Arch, I did it for fun. I wouldn't do it again because I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the stickers. But I don't blame the shop for it, I think my expectations were too high.

And I don't like this whole "someone should do this, its no big deal" mentality. If it is no big deal, go for it.

I'm sorry if I was a little harsh before.

Well as I said in the first post I already did this. Please go back and read it again.
I'm not telling anybody to do something I'm not doing myself.
What I did do was to try to make people aware that there was a problem.

All I'm saying is this: If you come agross a shop with the old logo, make them aware that the logo has changed.

Re: Help Linux-shops support Arch

Also on the same hand if you come across a shop that sells merchandise without the Arch Logo, suggest Arch to them too. :-D
