Gnome & XFCE sessions

i am trying to set up XFCE4 to start with a different session than Gnome, but i don't know how to do it. I use Compiz and AWN with Gnome and when i start XFCE Compiz and AWN are loaded too. I would like to use XFCE when i run my laptop on battery, so Compiz and AWN are not needed. when i deleted them from the XFCE session, they won't start in Gnome automatically. any help is appreciated. i hope i was clear in my post.

Re: Gnome & XFCE sessions

In XFCE, does going Menu>Settings>Session and Startup Settings>Advanced the unchecking "Launch GNOME services on startup" help?

Re: Gnome & XFCE sessions

It's because AWN needs to run tons of Gnome services and applications.

The latest AWN release (>=.2.6) can be built without needing to use so many Gnome dependencies. It can link to backends for Gnome, Xfce, or even an internal DE-agnostic backend.

The reason why you're still getting lots of Gnome services running is because the AWN version found in the AUR is completely retarded; it was built for the Gnome backend, thus forcing a lot of unwanted runtime dependencies. Speak with the AUR maintainer if you'd like it changed to something else, or else roll your own package.
