authentication in gnome-screensaver and xscreensaver fails

Hi All

From the past few days I am unable to unlock my terminal after I lock it and screensaver starts.
it always fails to authenticate inspite of right password. I have to go to a virtual console and kill the screensaver process to access my desktop.
I used to have thinkfinger before but removed it after I started facing this issue.
the files in pam.d look like

[krishan@L3-LR893 ~]$ cat /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver
#%PAM-1.0

# Fedora Core
#auth include system-auth
#account include system-auth
#password include system-auth
#session include system-auth

# SuSE/Novell
#auth include common-auth
#account include common-account
#password include common-password
#session include common-session

# Arch Linux
#auth required pam_unix_auth.so
auth required pam_unix.so nullok
account required pam_unix.so
session required pam_unix.so

[krishan@L3-LR893 ~]$ cat /etc/pam.d/xscreensaver
#auth required pam_unix_auth.so
#
auth required pam_unix.so nullok
account required pam_unix.so
session required pam_unix.so
password required pam_unix.so
[krishan@L3-LR893 ~]$

Is anybdy facing similar issues?
if smbdy could post their /etc/pam.d/xscreensaver and /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver , I would be thankful.
