I've just bought this HP 530 laptop, and I'm having some issues with audio.
When I plug in the headphones, the sound still comes out of the speakers. In order to ear sound from the headphones only I have to mute the speakers. So far, so good.
The problem is that the speakers unmute after a couple of minutes without any apparent reason. I tried with both ALSA and OSS, and I have the same problem.
Here is some hardware information:
lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
For me this is a very big issue, since I'm a kind of audiophile, and I love listening to music at considerable volume, which is suitable for headphones but not for speakers.
Thanks for your time

Wow! I didn't imagine the wiki was that comprehensive: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HP_ … Headphones
What I did is adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
